Seroflo 500 Inhaler is a metered-dose inhalation medicine manufactured by Cipla Ltd. It combines two active medicines in each dose:

  • Fluticasone propionate (500 mcg) – a corticosteroid that helps reduce inflammation (swelling and irritation) in the airways.
  • Salmeterol (50 mcg) – a long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles around the airways so they stay open and make breathing easier.

These two medicines work together to improve breathing and reduce symptoms in chronic respiratory conditions.

Seroflo 500 Inhaler comes as a press-and-breathe device with a metered-dose aerosol. Each puff delivers a fixed amount of medicine directly into the lungs.

How It Works

  • Fluticasone propionate acts on the lining of the airways to suppress inflammation, blocking chemical signals that cause swelling and mucus build-up.
  • Salmeterol targets smooth muscle around the air passages, relaxing them and helping to open and widen the airways so air flows more freely.

Together, these effects help improve lung function and reduce chronic symptoms.

This combination does not work as a rescue inhaler for sudden asthma attacks; it is meant for regular maintenance therapy to manage symptoms and prevent flare-ups.

What It’s Used For

Seroflo 500 Inhaler is commonly prescribed for:

  • Asthma: To control and prevent symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing.
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): To ease chronic breathing difficulty, reduce cough and mucus symptoms, and help maintain airflow.

Your doctor will determine the right dose and frequency based on the severity of your condition.

How to Use It

  1. Shake the inhaler gently before use.
  2. Breathe out fully, place your mouth over the mouthpiece, and inhale deeply.
  3. Press the top of the inhaler once while breathing in so the medication is released into your lungs.
  4. Hold your breath for a few seconds to let the medicine settle in your airways, then breathe out slowly.
  5. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after inhalation to reduce the risk of oral fungal infections like thrush.

Follow the specific instructions your doctor or pharmacist gives you.

Common Side Effects

Some people may experience side effects, most of which are mild and may improve with time. These include:

  • Cough, sore throat, hoarseness, or irritation in the mouth and throat
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Upper respiratory tract infections or sinus inflammation
  • Fungal infection in the mouth (oral thrush)
  • Increased heart rate or palpitations, muscle cramps, nasal dryness or discomfort

If side effects are severe, persistent, or worrying, contact your doctor.

Important Precautions

  • Do not use Seroflo 500 to relieve sudden worsening of asthma symptoms — use a fast-acting rescue inhaler instead.
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disorders, infections, or low potassium levels.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding before starting this medicine.
  • Do not stop treatment abruptly even if you feel better unless your doctor advises you to.

Storage

Keep the inhaler in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Do not expose it to excessive heat.
